Manama, Mar. 11 (BNA): President of the Supreme Council of Health (SCH) and chairman of the Bahrain Diabetes Society (BDS), Lt-General Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Khalifa has affirmed that the number of people with diabetes is increasing annually, stressing that the disease has become a major challenge for health decision-makers in the kingdom to face the increase in the number of patients, especially children whose number has reached 1,500.
Dr. Shaikh Mohammed bin Abdulla was speaking during the Arab Seminar organised by BDS on the sidelines of the fourth Diabetes Conference, in the presence of 200 guests from Bahraini families with diabetes patients.
He asserted that BDS held the seminar in line with its keenness on serving society and interacting with diabetes patients to inform them about the latest developments regarding the disease and provide them with opportunities to meet experts to answer their queries.
Although there are hereditary reasons behind the disease, other factors can also cause it, such as the environment, weight gain, obesity and unhealthy lifestyles, he explained.
